Earn the Day

Earn the Day, a non-profit that takes deserving youth on uncommon and exciting outdoor experiences in hopes of widening their perspectives, commissioned Slow Clap to make a video to raise awareness about their cause.

We could’ve done it the easy way, and had their founders explain their story, make a straightforward pitch to potential donors. But instead, we told Earn the Day that their cause speaks for itself, and the best way to let it sing is to take a no-frills documentary approach. We documented a unique day where a group of kids from San Francisco’s Mission District got to go surfing for the first time ever. We filmed the event as it occurred, which meant there would be no second chances or re-dos if we missed a shot.

It took a lot of hard work to whittle down the hours and hours of footage into a concise, inspiring story. But that’s what we love doing most. The video has been used by Earn the Day to raise donations. It was also picked up on several news sites and channels, amplifying its audience and impact.
